OTT - The Little Mermaid

Updated: May 28, 2020

In March of 2018, Akilah Watts was contacted by Janelle Headley, the Director of Operation Triple Threat (OTT) to paint some of the sets and props for there production of The Little Mermaid.

The Designs

All the 2d renderings for the set design of this production was done by Cherise Harris.

Headley contacted Watts because her artwork was vibrant in color and she thought she would be the perfect fit to bring Harris' renderings to life.

Between the first phone call and the first day of painting, Watts received all the 2d renderings of the set via email.

A New Venture

April 1st, 2018 was the first day of painting the set for the little mermaid. At the end of day 2, Watts was well aware of the measurements of all the sets and she suggested bringing on a few more artists that she knew would work not only fast but be able to create the best quality imagery on the various sets.

On the way home from painting the sets, Watts contacted 5 of her colleagues to see if they would be interested in the opportunity to paint the sets for OTT. They all agreed and the next day there were 6 artists and a few volunteers on the job.

Fostering Relationships

The entire OTT team was happy with the outcome of the set, especially since we were on such a tight deadline. After everything was said and done the director was already informing us of future productions that were coming up and that they wanted us to continue on as the team that painted their sets.
