This post is all about the first meeting with the panel and everything leading up to the the final sketch.
The Coincidence
On October 28th, 2019 we attended the long-awaited meeting with the panel. On arrival, we went through all the appropriate security measures when we bumped into one of our former tutors from college.
As we caught up with our former tutor, he realized we were going to the same floor so he told the guard that he would take us up. When we arrived on the second floor where we were going to do the next check-in, we meet the lady who was our main contact on the project thus far.
She then led us to the conference room were we and our former tutor realized we were to be part of the same meeting.
Before the meeting started we continued to chat with our former tutor and showed him which sketch was ours. He then proceeded to tell us how proud of us he was not only for becoming 1 of 2 finalists but for continuing to create and develop our own respective artwork.
The Grand Meeting
The other members of the panel arrived shortly after we did. After all the introductions were done we proceeded with the meeting where they discussed with us some of the reasons why our sketch stood out to them and the whole voting process. It was revealed that the majority of the panel did not know who any of the participating artists were which allowed for the voting process to be unbiased. They voted strictly on the content and concept of the sketches and only found out the name of the artist(s) after they had decided on the finalist.
The Re-sketch
As the meeting progress, we showed them our portfolio and mentioned that there was more than we had been discussing and developing with the sketch we submitted and how we had even more ideas on how to develop the sketch. The panel was excited to hear this and invited us to take and an additional week to submit some ideas that we had been developing.
With a date set for November 4th, 2019 we left the meeting with high hopes. We went for a late lunch to discuss what we thought of the entire thing and what we thought the other finalists' sketch looked like because at that point we had no idea.
