#FutureSPACES pt.10 - Painting Steadily

During the second week of painting, we continued to work on the element we drew out previously.

Scaffolding Switch

At this point, we still had no idea when the scaffolding would be readjusted so we were just doing what we could with what we had. In the afternoon of February 18th, 2020 the workmen that the contractor sent to readjust the scaffolding arrived. Being up on the scaffolding it was sometimes hard to hear the things going on below so when the workmen arrived we didn't hear them but the shaking of the scaffolding, quickly announced their presence.

When we felt the shaking, all of us stopped painting to look to see what was happening. The look on some of their faces was one of shock and the quickly explained that they were expecting to see old men upon the scaffolding painting. They weren't sure who was supposed to be painting the mural on the Post Office wall but they didn't expect us.

Once they got over their shock they asked us what we wanted to be moved and where to and then proceeded to head up the scaffolding stairs to make the necessary readjustments. Before they got too far we asked if we needed to get off the scaffolding for them to do their job but they said no and continued what they were doing.

Being a little skeptical and wanting to make sure the scaffolding was placed in the right areas, we stood back on the scaffolding stairs and watched from a safe distance. The workmen left shortly after they were finished.

Divide and Concur

We continued to paint the element that was already drawn out. Anna worked on the Chattel house while Akilah worked on the one cent and Alanis worked on the ackees. Once Akilah and Alanis added a good amount of detail to the ackees and the one cent, they move on to complete other things.

Alanis moved on to finish the palm trees in front of the one cent and Akilah moved on to draw out the remainder of the element up to the point where the girl would be standing. At this point Anna continued to work on the Chattel house, she was working meticulously to get all the structures of the chattel house just right.
